Have you ever found yourself wondering why you felt so different? Have you ever found your keys had been placed in the refrigerator? Did you grow up with a black hole surrounding you that would swallow things up and spit them back out into a completely different place after a period of time? Have you found that you could read entire chapters of books with absolutely no recollection of what you just read? Do you find that you have a knack for finishing peoples sentences? Can you feel the vibe of a person, room, or event with little else than an innate feeling? Maybe you miss regular social cues but yet see the world in a more literal sense? Do you find eye contact to be difficult? Or perhaps you know someone like this? Maybe it’s a friend, a cousin, a parent, or even a sibling? If this sounds like something you or someone you know experience on a regular basis, you/they may be neurodivergent!

Neurodivergence refers to the natural variations in neurological development and functioning that exist among individuals. It’s an inclusive and respectful term that encompasses a range of neurological conditions and differences, including but not limited to autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, dyspraxia, and others. After reading that definition you may think “So there is something wrong with me?!” and I’m here to tell you that couldn’t be further from the truth! Neurodivergence is a spectrum that just means different than the norm. But, different in no way means inferior! In actuality, neurodivergence can come with many benefits. Now I’m not trying to discount the fact that we live in a world more suited to the neurotypical and that being neurodivergent doesn’t come with it’s own set challenges, because as someone who is neurodivergent I’ve had to face an overcome many of those challenges myself and I work on those daily, still.

So if you’ve made it this far I invite you to continue on and explore more about neurodivergence. Take a look at our informational topic posts, to gain a better understanding of many aspects that make up this spectrum. Take the time to learn techniques, tools, tips, and products that can help minimize the struggles of living in a neurotypical world. We even have links to studies on neurodivergence so you can review the research yourself if you feel so inclined (I know I’m a sucker for hyper-fixating on research) TheDADHD.com is always looking on ways to improve the lives of others so if you have a topic you want discussed or you have any ideas to assist us in our goal to help as many people as possible then please reach out in our contact section!
